Monday Tidbits

This week I slacked off on prepping a blog post, ’cause I was way too busy 1.) stuffing my face with…stuffing, and turkey, and pumpkin pie, and all the other usual suspects, and 2.) cranking out words, words, words for an upcoming project I am SUPER HOLY CRAPSTICKS EXCITED ABOUT. So today I just have a couple tidbits to share:

1. New post on overcoming writing obstacles. I’m over on the Brain Mill Press blog today along with 11 other authors, sharing our best secrets for keeping the words flowing when life threatens your momentum. Lots of great answers on how to refuel your Tank of Creativity, get and stay motivated, and work through your fear (check out what my girl Roan Parrish has to say about Rufus Wainwright).

2. NaNoWriMo folks: I didn’t officially sweat alongside you this year, but I followed your trials, tribulations, and triumphs on Twitter–

[BRIEF PAUSE AS ALLITERATION POLICE HAUL ME AWAY AND SUBJECT ME TO EMERGENCY INTERVENTION]

–and I just wanted to say the following to all writerly types.

If you won NaNo: you rock for finishing.

If you didn’t finish: you rock for trying.

If you didn’t try: you rock for knowing what works for you.

Congratulations on whatever progress you’ve made in November—no matter how much or how little you’ve written, at least you’ve upped your word count since October, right? And even if you’re not completely happy with what you wrote, I bet there are some gems in there that you can start stringing into something lovely.

3. New story coming in February. I don’t think I can share the particulars quite yet, but I’m working on something new, and it’s coming in the next couple months. It’s m/m, and it involves:

  • Shakespeare nerds
  • A soliloquy-off
  • Mardi Gras masks
  • Nutter Butters
  • A castle in the Thousand Islands with lots of nooks for kissing

ALSO IT’S HOPEFULLY MAYBE THE FIRST STORY IN A SERIES, and I’ve never done a series before, so all y’all hold me, okay? Stay tuned for more details.

Hope you guys had a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday (if you celebrate). HERE IS A PICTURE OF THE WEIRD TURKEY CAKE WE ATE.

What else is there to say? Survive the miseries of this post-vacation week, write as much as you can in your tiny pockets of spare time, and if you can’t write, then sneak in a few pages of a good book whenever you can. (If your soul is especially droopy this week, I prescribe two chapters of whatever and a long hot bubble bath. Dump in extra bubbles and use all the hot water. I won’t tell.)
